Specific to surfacing I haven't seen any big leap forward 2017-2021. Last game changing surfacing enhancements (years ago) were introduction of conic curve and boundary surface. Improved or not splines are root of all evil in surface modeling. I realize this is hyperbole. Splines do have their place...

SPARK Product Development has used SolidWorks for 20 years. SW replaced Pro/E-CREO as our main CAD software. We have added Onshape about 3-4 years ago. I've used all sorts of CAD systems since the late 1980's. Started using a chisel and hammer to get geometry to appear on the screen with Computervision CADDs.
