I just love it when the software decides to switch references from one face to another one in an Assembly. As you might imagine, the face of the flange was the original selection for the mate, not the side.

I've occasionally done something similar, usually to drive a 3d sketch. I typically use the "Delete Bodies" feature when I'm finished referencing it. That gets rid of it, but keeps all references intact.

Regarding inserting a Part file into a weldment, the only time I do that is in the few occasions I've had where nuts are welded onto a structure. I do it in those cases so they'll show in the cut list.

Speaking of eye strain, a previous office manager here where I work had a custom mouse icon. Instead of the arrow it was a galloping horse, and its nose was the equivalent of the point of the conventional arrow. I guess she liked it, but that constant motion would drive me straight up the wall.

To be honest, most of the time I just model it as-built, and add a note in the drawing saying something like "Cut notch at XX° through three faces, bend, and weld," with a weld symbol pointing to the joint.

I haven't had any issues yet. I also realize this isn't possible in all situations.

Those are both beautiful, but there's also a lot going on with both of them. If they were where I saw them often I'd probably have to start drinking earlier (especially the one on bottom).
