Updates and down time
We needed an update, and it took a bit longer than I thought it would. We were down the afternoon and evening of Jan 3. Updating phpbb version requires overwriting all the functional files that make the board go. We're still in the new year lull here, so I hope the outage didn't affect too many peop...

Um, I hesitate to jump into this. But... Yes, you're going to be disappointed with SW. For a couple of reasons. First, it doesn't have the power or flexibility you are used to. And second, because it's already in decline. Solid Edge has a better chance, because it has subd modeling, but it is even m...

Interesting Blog. Personally, I don't think you can plan that much if you are dead against cloud computing. Any company could change on a flip of coin, and what you thought was was a plan is gone. Distaste for a company doesn't have to be just based on the cloud. It could also be based on their pro...

Depends on if you need point cloud. Easy way to figure it out is get Classic, and if you find you're missing something you need, I'm sure its easy to upgrade, where going the other direction is probably less easy. PMI would be included in everything, but I don't think 2D nesting comes with the softw...

Re: Sheet metal curve with flanges
Here's a little video on how to do it. You just have to use the Curve selection options in the Contour Flange Command Bar. Plus, you have to use a sketched flange. I don't think you can just pull a set of straight flanges around a curve. The bad part of that is that it's an extra step. The good part...

It is also affected by rollback state and configurations. And then there are some features (like Ribs) where the selection is affected by the body count when the feature is rebuilt.

The problems are probably due to bodies changing names - bodies being split, joining, the number of bodies changing, moving from solid to surface, etc. If you try naming bodies manually, you probably run into the same problems. It's a really complex thing to try to keep track of internally or even t...

Can you please elaborate on that statement? Mmm. You know I think I was talking about configurations and some of the more advanced inter-part relationships you can create in assemblies. Even though the front part is 3 sided, don't make it that way. The Fill is the only way to successfully do 3 sided surfaces, and even then, the Fill makes it as a 4 sided patch and trims it back. Not only that, you can combine methods. Getting out from under history is a great thing for simple models. A...
