sorry, typo/wires crossed. SW2024 does not work on server 2016 which is what we have. Ok....I'll just say we've done in place OS upgrades from 2016 to 2019 with little issues with most apps. I do need to do the same for our SNL server though. It's in Azure so the upgrade is easy and we can do a rol...

Good point. I think the issue is that there is no distinction between the two in SW. It should be two separate things - physical products, or an alternative representations of a physical product. Re: Revision control app macro (release)
Configurations are a sticky issue for revisions. For us they can represent a family of parts each with their own part number. But we can also have some that are for reference in a drawing. The sheet metal flat is a good example. So do you revision those as well? Today we revise all of them together ...

Re: PDM revision into model
I'm working on connecting SW's BOM's to our ERP. I need to create a custom field in our models that have the PDM revision in it. We have a, I think, a variable in our data card "REVISION". This is what's called in our borders $PRP:"REVISION", to pull the REV into the drawings. W...

Re: PDM, Is there a user/group state permission to list file but not allow caching it?
Windchill works on this principal for downstream users. Cad documents are published to PDF for drawings and the Creoview format for 3d models. They are then attached to the objects representing "Parts item masters". So most non CAD users only see that content, they can't open the SolidWork...

Re: PDM, Is there a user/group state permission to list file but not allow caching it?
We kind of handled this by only allowing those types of groups to view the "PDFs" of finished drawings. If we were staying with PDM, I'd probably start publishing 3d viewables in additional to our 2d PDF viewables.(eDrawings or maybe some other 3d format). Since we create a 2d pdf viewable...

"Found in" says version 3 (of 6). That "number" variable has the same value in all configs set at version 2. The config in question was deleted along the way on version 4. So the search with "all versions checked" is finding that deleted configuration first, then pullin...

So I looked in the VariableValues table for that document and realized the pdm add-in was displaying the variable value from a sheet that has not been on the drawing since version 1 and the file is at v12. To test this I added the sheet back in with exact name then checked the file out. That allowe...

Comparing PDM transfer rates for adding files to the vault vs uploading files to a network share is not an apples to apples comparison though. The Autotrace feature in SolidWorks can do it but it takes a bit of finagling with the settings. I haven't tried Inkscape, it may do a better job.

Are the files loading from a network location? Are files loaded lightweight? I know SolidWorks will only load a small amount of data lightweight, then stream additional data as needed. Mates may need additional data causing the spike.

OOTB no. You might try a macro.....then you could have it name the file whatever you want.
