You could explode the text into sketch elements, but that's messy. No, it's Messy.

I would avoid doing it in sketch. Use the text to make solid geometry, and then use the line sketch to break up the solid text into bodies. You can probably still get where you want to go using that method.

Solidworks uses configurations, which covers FOA, FOP and configurations in Solid Edge. SW configurations are powerful and complex, but they sometimes also get people into trouble. Interesting. If you populated the model with dimensions and STEP 242'd it out to Solid Edge, you would get a live-editable model in Synchronous.

Believe it or not, SE actually is trying. They are adding stuff to the software that SW users will find appealing. The good news about SE is that the technical side is WAY out front of the marketing side. If you've used SE in the past, they have added stuff to the workflow to make things more SW-ish...

It depends on if you want to do the work or not. As a full time job, that's probably a 25-30$/hr gig, but as a contractor, you have to charge more than that. $50/hr might be high if you're not doing any design.
