How to delete sketch points

Unread post by Dwight »

All

I have a couple of points in a sketch that I want to delete. Solidworks claims they are endpoints, but they are not, and there are no associated curves to delete. Any way to get rid of them?

The part is proprietary, so I won't upload it.

Thanks

Thanks, that led to a solution. I had created construction lines to anchor text features in a sketch. When I realized I needed to hide the construction lines but show the rest of the sketch, I created another sketch with construction lines, edited the text features to use those new construction lines, then deleted the old construction lines. For some reason, the old endpoints remained as part of the text features, and when I deleted the text features, the endpoints were also deleted. I then made new text features and all is good, with no endpoints showing in the sketch.

Kinda weird behavior, but I'll admit it is not likely to come up.

Hello Dwight, suggest you delete all the features and leave only that sketch w/points to share?

I have seen this behavior before.

Generally this happens when I draw a line, and then either by constraints or by dimensions, I accidentally make the line 0 length, which takes the 2 endpoints and overlays them.

This confuses the program and sometimes the points become unselectable. Most of the time, a window selection and delete will take care of it, but not always.

Sometimes I have taken care of it by having Solidwork Auto constrain it using the "Fully Define Sketch" feature. Which will add some relations, making the points selectable again.

I spent some time today chasing two lines that were attached, but no constraint that I could find defined that attachment. I ended up having to trim one of the lines to get them to separate.

I recreated your example and was able to delete the point by clicking on it and choosing "Select other." The sketch point was first on the list.

And yes, I know the click and drag box is simpler, but I wanted to mention it anyway in case anyone sees some benefit.
