nonlinear simulation

Unread post by boaz »

hi all,

I've been trying to re-create a real world measurement in SW in order to validate my sims.
The real world situation is as follows, a 2m long aluminium extrusion profile supported on 2 ends with a weight of 50 kg in the middle. the results were a deformation of 4 mm and 1 mm permanent deformation (the beam was slightly bent after the weight was removed).
this means some plastic deformation has occurred so in order to properly simulate this i have to use nonlinear simulations right?

So i set up the nonlinear sim, put in all my material properties (the strain/stress curve was not readily available for my material (AA 6060-t66) but I approximated it from a strain stress graph for the same material but at 200 degrees Celsius). when I ran my study the deformation was 2,38 mm and stress was 118,7 Mpa.

The displacement does not compare to my real world measurement, does anyone know where to look for the problem.

some more sim settings:
the material type I put in as plastic-von mises
young modules 69000 Mpa
Poisson ratio 0,33
yield stress 170 Mpa
tensile strength 220 Mpa
shear/tangent modulus 26000 Mpa
