SNL, Solidworks 2024 is not supported on Windows Server 2016

Unread post by bnemec »

Hello, we use network licenses and the SNL server is on our PDM SQL Server instance, which is Windows Server 2016. It will likely remain that way until our next update in a few years. (We are updating to 2023 before long and likely skip 24 and possibly 25, time will tell.) I was going to test out some SW 2024 and tried to update the license server to 2024 (it's at 2023 now as we've been testing 2023, main SW installs and PDM at 2019). I cannot update the license server to 2024 on this machine. I would rather not move it because I think that would require updating all the clients to the new hostname? So does anyone have a straight forward suggestion to get a license for a single, temporary install of 2024?

I just wanted to try out the dimple feature.

Yeah, their website shows that Server 2016 support stops prior to SW 2024.

In the past, I've reached out to my VAR and they gave me a 30 day license key for a trial of the next version of SW. That may be the easiest method.

If you're just trying out a specific feature there's the browser based trial version. https://my.solidworks.com/try-solidworks

Not worth the hoop jumping to test it.

I can relate a lot as even on a virtual environment snl alone is blocked by the os check. snl will probably work anyway with 2016 and the installer could be fooled to perform the installation, but it will be not supported.
