We are out 180 degrees from jcapriotti 's company. No one really cares what font we decide to use as long as it meets several common sense standards (pretty much what KennyG specified). Re: Who else is using mostly/only "bottom up" modeling methods?
My philosophy on this is pretty simple. There is one major question that divides the two possibilities: will this part be used in multiple contexts or in only one context? If a part is used in multiple contexts (fasteners and standard bearings are good examples) it MUST be done bottom up. Otherwise ...

Many would count that as a blessing not being tied down by a history tree. It all depends what you want to change and in what way. I remember the dream they sold with parametric modelling back in the 90's, a few clicks and everything is done or changed. Solid Edge has both history-free (Synchronous...

However, in all honesty, I'd check out Onshape if I were you. It's free as long as your files are public, then if you subscribe someday you can make all your files private.

Sketch relations in SW is better and worse than SE. It's nice that I can select a bunch of arcs then make them all equal radii, in Edge could only do one set at a time. Check this method out. It can be a little finicky but it seems to work quite well.
