Flat Pattern orientation

Hi guys,

Is there an easy way to rotate Flat pattern view in a drawing so that bounding box edges are horizontal/vertical. See the attached image. My problem is that some parts just doesn't have any parallel edge with bounding box so I have to manually rotate the view, or as usual just leave it crooked since I'm too lazy...

This is how the view looks after insertion

This is final version after measuring the angle and rotating it manually. Too much work for my lazy a**.

Nice demo. I haven't had the need to apply the technique, but I am sure I will in the future.

Or,.. Save a View Name (my lazy a**) relative to normal you want in the sldprt and use that Saved View Name in your slddrw.

This is definitely an awesome trick, but when I use the relative view I see only the bent model, no flat pattern. In your example you don't use sheet metal but a regular boss-extrude.

Yes, I was just going for how to create the relative view.

Once you have the orientation down, and you have placed the view, you can then select the drop down in the view.

As, one other user said, another way is to save a view in the 3d model and then use that view in your drawing.
