resize the graphics area in solidworks

Post by axco »

I imported a picture to create a sketch for a new part. After creating the part and after deleting the picture when I zoom, all my part disappears or is shown very small on the screen. Also, when I try to rotate the part, the part disappears. The relationship between the part size and the graphic viewing area is way off. Somehow, it still remembers the size of the picture I used to create the part. How can I resize the graphics area?

It is possible there is a point on the sketch at some far extent creating that behavior.

All the sketches are fully defined. If there is a point at some far extend, one of the sketches would not be defined.

And there is some sort of sketch entity way over here, fully constrained or not. (I had the same issue about 6 months ago.)

Thanks for your reply. DanPihlaja, I removed the points in sketch 4, but I still have the same issue. SPerman, your picture does not tell me what sketch you found the points on.

The same one Dan pointed out. I suspect this problem may exist in more than one sketch.

I went thru all the sketches and did not find any more stray points. I also deleted the subtracted part to make certain it did not have any sketches with stray points. No change! Somehow the working graphic area was enlarged by me bringing in the large jpg file and it now it can't be changed.

Hiding Sketch4 made it behave properly, although it doesn't get rid of the underlying issue. Very strange indeed.

One thing I noticed after I opened the part, is that you put a part inside of a part. That (IMHO) is a bad practice. We don't allow that here at the company I work at. I suspect there's a problem with that part (like Sketch4 in this part.)

I tried opening the part you put in the part, but "File not found".

Instead of putting a part in a part, use an assy and do a subtract there with the mold feature.

I hope this helps,

Dan B.
Thank you,

Dan B.
